Because sometimes you just feel like a nut right? If you like sweet salty and crunchy treats this fruit and nut brittle is for you. Now that it’s October (gasp I can’t believe I just typed that, where is this year going) I’m already starting to think about what homemade treats I’m going to be making for gift giving. My criteria usually includes quick and delicious. I’m super strict eh?

This checks both of those boxes. You can whip up a few baking sheets of this beautiful brittle in no time at all. It reminds me of amber jewelry and  I’ve been obsessed with those gorgeous chunks for as long as I remember. Something hypnotizing about it. I’m going to consider this my edible amber.

How to Make Brittle:

Once your brittle has had time to set up the fun part begins. It’s time to break it up (you’re welcome for having that song in your head now). Who doesn’t like to work out a little aggression every now and then. Don’t go crazy though, you want the brittle to break into small to medium size pieces not end up as granules that you’ll have to end up sprinkling on ice cream.

Not that that would be a bad thing now that I think about it. If you’re giving these as gifts place a few pieces into a glass jar or into a small box lined with parchment paper or another food safe paper and wrap it up with a pretty bow. Hope my kids’ teachers like brittle because this is what’s coming their way this year.

TIP: Nuts can be expensive (this coming from a pistachio and cashew addict who knows), if you’re making a large batch of this brittle try stopping by one of the larger membership stores, like Sam’s Club, for a better deal. It’s where I found the combination of nuts and fruits that I wanted.

When you’re ready to get started, click over to Dixie Crystals where you will find my FRUIT AND NUT BRITTLE  recipe.

I wish you would mention the fruit/nut combo you used. it’s not mentioned at all even in the recipe. also, what is the fleur de sel used for? Again no mention in the recipe though it is listed in ingredients?

Hi Dawn, the fleur de sel is the optional salt that you can sprinkle on the mixture after pouring it onto the baking sheet.
