Get Your Garden Growing

Miracle-Gro Gro-ables www.bellalimento.com
A few weeks ago we got our started our container using Miracle-Gro Gro-Ables. Gro-ables are seed pods that provide an ideal growing environment for your seed. Each ready-to-plant seed pod contains growing materials, plant food and a specially selected seed from one of 17 different varieties including basil, spinach, cilantro, dill, sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes and more.

All you need to do is plant your seed, water and enjoy watching it grow into something greater. Easy right?

Here’s what the plants are looking like just a few short weeks later. As you can see they’re growing like crazy. Before long we’ll have tomatoes coming out of our ears. There is simply nothing better than a vegetable or fruit than you’ve grown yourself. Period.

Home grown tomatoes are high on my gardening totem pole. We’ve got a total of 13 tomato plants going. Not sure how I ended up with an odd number but nevertheless.

We’ll be using them to make things like our: HOMEMADE TOMATO SAUCE, OVEN ROASTED TOMATOES, and of course we’ll be CANNING some of those tomatoes so we can enjoy them into the winter months.

Our herbs are coming in faster than I can keep up. This my friends is a good problem to have. I put fresh herbs into just about every meal (and yes drinks too) that we make. A snip here and a snip there. Amazing how a little can so enhance a dish.

Try making HOMEMADE BASIL PESTO , HOMEMADE SPINACH PESTO, and we’re all about our HERB CUBES.

I appreciate that this product is directed at folks who feel they can’t grow anything, and/or want to grow very few plants, but I can’t help thinking that this is a perfect example of what’s wrong with our economy – people creating more and more needless products and creating “markets” that shouldn’t exist. For heaven’s sake people, you can put a seed in a pot of soil can’t you?!? Growing your own food is not about buying specialty products that make other people wealthy!!!

Oh goodness I am so saddened I gave up on vegetable gardening. All the critters, rabbits and deer here ravaged through it in the past so I gave up. I am so tempted to start over with these seeds.

I live in an apartment in New York City and I have a very small terrace. But I am always thrilled to get a few tomatoes from my tomato plants! It’s certainly not like the huge garden my dad had when I was growing up, but there really is nothing like enjoying home-grown herbs and vegetables!
