Taco Al PastorDisclaimer: This post was sponsored by Pepcid through Mom It Forward.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m kinda a nut about tacos. I dig ’em. I especially dig those from my favorite local food truck. It’s ones of those gems that unless someone has told you about it, you might not even know about it. Lucky for you, I’m going to tell you about it so you can go, and invite me. Because I’m a giver and shared with you. Food trucks aren’t what they used to be boys and girls. No need to shy away from them. Food trucks are all the rage across ‘Merica and there’s a good reason why. Good eats. Good local eats to be exact.

I adore spicy food. My favorite taco truck (located off of Crafsman Drive) has a spicy set your mouth on fire green sauce that I can’t not put on my tacos. It’s insanely hot and well you can imagine that it’s a potential heartburn trigger. I don’t adore heartburn. It happens. Is it going to stop me from enjoying the foods I love? Nope. I tuck a little backup away in my console for those types of occasions. What is that you ask? It’s PEPCID®.

As any local food-lover will tell you, heartburn is one thing they want to keep off the menu. There are many misconceptions and misunderstandings about what heartburn is and how you get heartburn. Visit http://www.pepcid.com/what-is- heartburn to learn more about heartburn and heartburn triggers.

What is heartburn? Heartburn happens when acid escapes from your stomach up into your esophagus. Unlike the stomach, the esophagus isn’t meant to house acid, so that’s when you feel the burn.

Food is the most common heartburn trigger. Your stomach may react to some foods by increasing acid production, slowing down digestion, or inhibiting the esophageal sphincter’s ability to prevent stomach contents from leaking back into the esophagus.

Heartburn triggers vary from person to person, but tomatoes, fatty foods, and coffee are among the usual suspects. Chocolate, garlic, raw onions, mints, vinegar, citrus fruits and juices, spicy foods, ketchup and mustard and alcohol are also culprits.

Who gets heartburn? Almost anyone can get heartburn. What triggers it varies from person to person, but some of the common causes can include diet, smoking, and being overweight.

From May 2 through June 27, 2016, the makers of PEPCID® will host the PEPCID® Tastemakers Celebrating Local Eats contest on Facebook and Instagram to empower local tastemakers to explore their local food scene (without the fear of heartburn).
