This Old Fashioned post is sponsored by Brown-Forman and is intended for those 21+ years of age and older. Opinions are my own. We’ve taken the traditional Old Fashioned and given it a festive holiday twist by using holiday bitters.
‘Tis the season for celebrating (responsibly). When considering which cocktail to serve for a holiday celebration I tend to lean towards the classics. It doesn’t get more classic than an Old Fashioned. It’s a perfectly crafted well balanced cocktail that requires just a few ingredients – whiskey, a sweetener, bitters and garnish. No mixology mastery required.
What is always a good idea are well crafted ingredients. Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve bourbon was our choice for this cocktail.
How Important are Barrels to Bourbon?
You may be surprised to find out that BARRELS along with the aging process are responsible for 60-70% of the taste of bourbon. I’d say that was pretty important. So important that COOPERS’ CRAFT was created to honor the Brown-Forman barrel makers. Since 1945 they have remained the ONLY major distillery to own a new barrel cooperage and raise their own barrels.
The barrels make the bourbon. That’s why they make the barrels.
What are the tasting notes of Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve?
Are you curious about what it tastes like? Think caramel and cotton candy coating on apples with a little pear and citrus and a hint of vanilla and cinnamon. Bold, complex and coming in at 100 proof and I believe goes great in an Old Fashioned.
How to dress up an Old Fashioned for the holidays.
If you’re looking for even more festive ways to garnish an old fashioned for the holidays, instead of an orange peel consider adding a sprig of fresh rosemary OR skewer several fresh cranberries onto a small skewer and place into the rocks glass. Fun and festive in an instant.
Are you ready to make your own?
Where can I find Coopers’ Craft?
Coopers’ Craft bourbons would not only make a great addition to your home bar but would make an excellent holiday gift for the whiskey enthusiast in your life. As if being tasty wasn’t enough, they’re reasonably priced and currently available in 19 states. That’s a win win in my book.
