What is a Manhattan?
A Manhattan is one of the oldest American cocktails. The ingredients in a traditional Manhattan cocktail are whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. While rye whiskey is the traditional choice, you may substitute Canadian whisky, bourbon, blended whiskey, or Tennessee whiskey. Whichever you prefer.
What is the difference between a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned?
An Old Fashioned is made with whiskey, bitters, and sugar. It is served over ice in a rocks glass and garnished with an orange peel.
A Manhattan is traditionally made with rye whiskey and vermouth, it’s served in a coupe glass garnished with a maraschino cherry.
How to Make Brown Sugar Simple Syrup?
Simple syrup is made by using a 1/1 ratio of water to sugar. Instead of granulated sugar, which is used in a basic simple syrup, you’ll use brown sugar. I opted for dark brown sugar for this recipe.
TIP: Make your simple syrup ahead of time to have on hand when you’re ready to mix up a drink.
What is a Coupe glass?
A coupe glass is a stemmed glass that features a broad, shallow bowl. It’s also known as the Champagne coupe or Champagne saucer. It was, as you may have guessed, originally developed for champagne.
