Hummingbird Cocktail. This post is intended for those 21+ years of age of older.

Two Hummingbird Cocktails in martini glasses garnished with a lemon peel. Lemon missing peel to side.

I can assure you that is a cocktail and not a glass of water. Although you might think you’re drinking flavored water because The Hummingbird is a smooth sexy sneaky little cocktail that’s made with three little ingredients: St Germain, Prosecco and Club Soda.

I’m not sure how many years ago I was introduced to St Germain, because whenever I try to recall years I’m always wrong (my friends will attest to this). So we’ll just say 4 for the sake of argument.

I was at a lovely little retreat in Savannah. Our night was winding down with lots of friends, belly laughs, happy tears and yes cocktails. My friend Helene had in her possession a bottle of St. Germain. I was immediately smitten with the bottle. It’s unmistakeable.

I had brought a smidge of my homemade Limoncello and because it sounded good at the time I combined the two. That was my introduction to St. Germain. I’ve since been drinking it on the rocks (crushed ice please) or in the form of The Hummingbird.

St. Germain is an all natural elderflower liqueur produced in France. From what I understand the delicate flowers needed to make this luscious liqueur are harvested by hand in the Alps. This would explain the price.

Apparently everyone nearby to me has caught onto the fabulous-ness that is S. Germain. The past THREE times I’ve been to my local alphabet stores they’ve been out. I guess I’m going to have to start buying them a case at a time. If they’re out again you’ll know it was because of me. Sorry. Not sorry.

Best part about this cocktail is you don’t have to shake until your hand feels like it might fall off, not to mention freeze. All you do is pour and drink. Responsibly of course. You all know the rules.

    Oooh, I have a huge bottle of St. Germain just waiting for a new cocktail to try! This is stunning…though I may need a lemon twist intervention. Mine tend to be lemon stubs ;

    I LOVE the sound of this cocktail. I had St. Germain once at a local restaurant here in Philly and thinking about that drink along with this one makes me want to add a bottle to the Liquor Cabinet – along with some prosecco of course 🙂

    It might be me that’s grabbing all the St. Germain from the stores. I ADORE the stuff, though it really is a bit pricey. I’m pretty sure my bottle of it would be one of the things I’d grab and run out with if the house was on fire.I’m loving the cocktail and will definitely be giving it a try.
