This post is intended for those 21+ years of age. Please enjoy responsibly. Gumby Slumber Cocktail.
Last week I was in the Florida Keys (if you follow me on Instagram and Twitter you would have seen some of the aca-awesomness, and if you’re not, just why? Go ahead and fix that now. Okay? Okay.) I almost didn’t come home. Not even going to pretend that it was anything short of amazing.
The food, the people the WATER. It’s ridiculous. I honestly bought an artisan made necklace off a gallery owner’s neck because it reminded me of the water. I had to have it, and this cocktail that I discovered while there.
We were greeted at the dock of the luxurious and uber exclusive Little Palm Island Resort & Spa with a tray of these cocktails. It’s called the Gumby Slumber. “It was created and named long ago by one of the Island’s first bartenders. The name was a random thought as he was describing the effect of the drink – your body turns to a “gumby” state and you simply want to “slumber” in a hammock all afternoon. I can attest to that. I decided to shake it up (literally and figuratively) using Blue Chair Bay Coconut Spiced Rum and Blue Chair Bay White Rum. These rums are inspired by the island lifestyle of multi-platinum singer-songwriter Kenny Chesney. He’s poured his heart and soul into every step of the creation of this rum, from beach to bottle, and it shows.
Kenny (yes we’re practically bff’s now so Kenny it is) wanted to develop a truly great rum that he would be proud to share with his friends, and that’s exactly he did. By working with one of the world’s great master blenders, Mike Booth, he was able to create a blend of true beach aged rum. This rum is even created at the Caribbean’s last true beach side distillery, right on the ocean. Ehem Kenny, I wouldn’t mind seeing this up close and personal. You know research and all.
Blue Chair Bay is available in four flavors: White, Coconut, Coconut Spiced and Banana. The coconut is robust yet easy with a just-cracked-open-coconut character (all natural) and an incredibly smooth mouthfeel. The Coconut Spiced Rum is the new way to spice, where cinnamon, nutmeg and clove meet beach-aged rum and natural coconut for a whole new way to experience the islands. The banana rum tastes like they took your Grandmother’s prize banana pudding and infused it into the highest quality rum. It’s amazing.
This rum is available just about everywhere and starts at $18.99 for a 750ml bottle and $28.99 for 1.75L bottles. To find out where you can purchase Blue Chair Bay rum, download the Blue Chair Bay Rum locator app from the App Store or Google Play.

Blue Chair Bay invites you to enjoy its rums and the islands responsibly.

Key West sounds like the perfect place to enjoy such a tropical drink. It wouldn’t work here (Maine) today as it is cool, gray and rainy! On the other hand it might brighten the day!
